NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College softball team
(8-24, 3-19 Northeast-10 Conference) saw its losing skid reach
eight games on Saturday with a pair of losses at Southern
Connecticut State University, falling in the opener, 8-0, and the
nightcap, 8-2.
Junior Kate Condon (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) belted a home
run in game two for the Purple Knights. Seniors Lindsay Bernard
(Scarborough, Maine/Catherine McAuley) and Heather French (Sheldon,
Vt./Bellows Free Academy-Saint Albans) doubled for the visitors,
while freshman Stephanie Frank (Essex, Vt./Essex) suffered the
complete-game loss, but allowed just three earned runs as the
Purple Knights committed four errors.
In the opener, SCSU (29-9, 17-3 NE-10) no-hit Saint Michael's in
a game halted after 4 1/2 innings due to the eight-run rule. The
lone baserunner for the Purple Knights in game one was freshman
Carleen McLaughlin (Branford, Conn./Branford), who walked to lead
off the third inning. The Owls, meanwhile, recorded 15 hits in the
opener, all off of freshman Lauren Mercik (Suffield,
Conn./Suffield), who took the complete-game loss.
Saint Michael's twinbill at the University of New Haven
scheduled for Sunday has been postponed due to rain, and is
rescheduled for Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Therefore, the Purple
Knights' next contests are on Tuesday, as Saint Michael's hosts
Southern New Hampshire University for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Doc
Jacobs Field.
