COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team grabbed a 6-3 win over Franklin Pierce University in a Northeast-10 Conference match in its season finale on Saturday's Senior Day at the Tarrant Recreation Center. With the victory, the Purple Knights finish the season 4-7 overall and 3-6 in the conference, while the Ravens fall to 3-7 and 2-7.
The pairing of senior Chris Moskal (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) and junior Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) won, 8-0, at the second doubles slot for Saint Michael's, while senior Eric Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C./Pinecrest) and first-year Steve Thomson (Westport, Conn./Staples) battled to a 9-7 victory at No. 1. Senior Kenny Vassallo (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) and first-year Charlie Merry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) nearly helped the Purple Knights sweep doubles action, but fell, 8-6, from the third slot.
Parziale bounced back to earn a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 win after dropping the first set from the top singles spot, while Bosco battled back from a first-set defeat to grab a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) decision at No. 2. Moskal won, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-1 from the fourth position, and senior Lyle Nichols (Washington, Conn./Shepaug Valley) stayed close during a 6-4, 6-3 setback at No. 6.
