RINDGE, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team fell at Franklin Pierce University, 6-3, on Sunday during Northeast-10 Conference action. The Purple Knights are now 0-2 overall and in the league, while the Ravens improved to 2-2 and 1-2.
Saint Michael's lost two of three doubles matches, with the second setback coming in a tie-breaker. Seniors Chris Allen (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) and Tom Brahm (Marlborough, Conn./Xavier) teamed for an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles, while sophomores Sam Laves (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Brady) and Charlie Merry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) dropped an 9-8 decision in the third spot, suffering a 7-3 loss in the tie-breaker.
During singles play, senior Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) tallied a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 comeback victory at No. 1, while first-year Ben Lambert's (Milford, N.H./Milford) opponent at No. 6 defaulted. In the fifth spot, Allen won his opening set before succumbing, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7. A doubles specialist during his career, Allen was making his singles debut as a Purple Knight.
Saint Michael's heads to Le Moyne College on Saturday for a 10 a.m. doubleheader with the women.
