ORLANDO, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team opened its first Spring Break trip in five years with an 8-1 loss to Colorado College on Sunday at the Lake Cane Tennis Center. The Purple Knights remain winless through eight matches, while the Tigers are 3-1.
Colorado College won all three doubles matches, with Saint Michael's coming closest to claiming a point when senior Chris Allen (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) and first-year Hayden Steward (Hamilton, Mass./Pingree School) dropped a narrow 8-5 decision in the second position.
Senior Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) held on for a 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) triumph at No. 1 singles, while a pair of teammates lost in three sets. Junior Billy Wood (Wayne, Pa./Home Schooled) won his opening set before absorbing a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 loss at No. 2, and sophomore Charlie Merry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) rallied to tie at No. 4 but ultimately lost a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 decision.
The Purple Knights play their next regular-season match on Tuesday against Hope (Mich.) College in Kissimmee, Fla., at 8 a.m.
