MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team returned to action for the first time in 12 days on Monday, winning for the second time in three matches by blanking Saint Anselm College, 9-0, during Northeast-10 Conference play at the Saint Anselm Tennis Courts. Saint Michael's, which lost a total of just 15 games during the day, improved to 2-12 overall and 2-7 in the league, while the Hawks are 0-10 and 0-9.
During doubles play, seniors Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) and Tom Brahm (Marlborough, Conn./Xavier) won 8-3 at No. 1, senior Chris Allen (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) and first-year Hayden Steward (Hamilton, Mass./Pingree School) claimed an 8-2 decision in the top position, and sophomore Sam Laves (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Brady) and first-year Ben Lambert (Milford, N.H./Milford) were victorious by an 8-1 count at No. 3.
Bosco, sophomore Charlie Merry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) and first-year Patrick Dietz (Prospect, Conn./Woodland Regional) blanked their singles opponents at No. 1, 4 and 6, respectively. Junior Billy Wood (Wayne, Pa./Home Schooled) won 6-0, 6-2 in the second spot, Brahm took a 6-3, 6-2 contest at No. 3, and Laves earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5.
The Purple Knights conclude their season on Thursday at Assumption College at 3 p.m.
