PAXTON, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team fell against Assumption College, 7-2, on Tuesday during Northeast-10 Conference action at the Paxton Tennis and Fitness Club. The Purple Knights are 1-8 overall and 1-6 in the league, while the Greyhounds improved to 4-6 and 3-3.
During doubles play, the Purple Knights picked up their lone point in the third position, as senior Charlie Merry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) and junior Forrest Owen (Southboro, Mass./Saint John's) claimed an 8-5 victory. In the second spot, senior Sam Laves (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Brady) and first-year Dan Foley (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) won four games during a setback.
Foley, who only made his college singles debut last week, pushed his winning streak to three matches with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph in the fifth position. The Greyhounds won the remaining five singles matches, all in straight sets. Junior Ben Lambert (Milford, N.H./Milford) and Laves both won five games during their losses at No. 1 and 3, respectively.
The Purple Knights head to Saint Anselm College on Thursday for a 3 p.m. match.
