DeWITT, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team opened the spring with a 9-0 loss to Le Moyne College at Gold's Gym on Sunday morning during Northeast-10 Conference play. The Dolphins improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Each of the Purple Knights' three doubles teams claimed only one game in their first matches of the season. Seniors Ben Lambert (Milford, N.H./Milford) and Hayden Steward (Hamilton, Mass./Pingree School) occupied the top spot, sophomores Max Allen (Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) and Dan Foley (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) sided at No. 2 in Allen's college debut, while senior Forrest Owen (Northboro, Mass./Saint John's) and first-year Matt Mosher (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) played in the third position.
During singles, Foley lost his opening set at No. 5 by a 6-3 count in a straight-set loss, while Lambert lost 6-2, 6-1 in at No. 1. Mosher and Owen each won two games in the fourth and sixth spots, respectively, and senior Patrick Dietz (Prospect, Conn./Woodland Regional) claimed one at No. 2.
Saint Michael's is off until playing six times in six days during a Spring Break trip to the Orlando, Fla., area, beginning by taking on Millersville (Pa.) University on March 12.
