COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team fell to Stonehill College, 8-1, on Saturday during Northeast-10 Conference play in the Tarrant Recreation Center. The Purple Knights dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the NE10, while the Skyhawks improved to 3-4 and 1-0.
Two tandems came closest to recording points in doubles. At No. 2 doubles, senior Hayden Steward (Hamilton, Mass./Pingree School) and first-year Matt Mosher (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) lost 8-5, while senior Forrest Owen (Northboro, Mass./Saint John's) and sophomore Max Allen (Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) fell by the same score at No. 3. At No. 1 doubles, senior Ben Lambert (Milford, N.H./Milford) and sophomore Dan Foley (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) fell 8-3.
Mosher won his singles match at the No. 5 position, as he triumphed 9-8 (7-4) in a pro-set. Lambert lost a pair of close sets during a 7-5, 6-4 setback in the top spot, and Allen dropped an 8-4 pro-set at No. 6. Senior Patrick Dietz (Prospect, Conn./Woodland Regional) also claimed four games in a straight-set loss at the second position.
The Purple Knights face their second conference opponent of the weekend tomorrow when they host Adelphi University at 10 a.m. The Panthers are fifth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll and qualified for the past three NCAA Tournaments.
