Men's tennis caps road weekend with loss at regionally-ranked Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team completed a two-match road weekend against regionally-ranked foes with a 9-0 loss to Merrimack College on Sunday at North Andover High School during Northeast-10 Conference action. The Purple Knights are 1-13 overall and winless through eight NE10 outings, while the Warriors are 7-7 and 5-1. Merrimack is ranked sixth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll while having qualified for the past nine NCAA Tournaments.

Saint Michael's won two games during doubles matches, including as senior Forrest Owen (Northboro, Mass./Saint John's) and sophomore Dan Foley (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) took on the region's fifth-ranked tandem at No. 1. During singles play, first-year Matt Mosher (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) won his opening set in the fifth position before ultimately losing a 5-7, 6-2, 10-3 decision. Senior Patrick Dietz (Prospect, Conn./Woodland Regional) claimed three games in a straight-set loss at No. 2.

The Purple Knights close their season next Saturday when they host Franklin Pierce University for a Senior Day match at 1 p.m.
