FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team played its first doubleheader of the spring on Wednesday, being swept in a pair of seven-inning contests at the hands of Southern Vermont College, 15-5 and 14-5, during the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at Terry Park.

THE ACTION

  • Southern Vermont scored three runs on two hits in the bottom of the first inning, with senior Cody Sullivan's two-run single the key hit.
  • Maldonado's two-out RBI single made it 3-1 in the second, plating Kroeger.
  • Four more Mountaineer runs came home on three hits and two errors in the home half, as Stacey's RBI triple was one of two run-scoring hits in the frame.
  • Mason's two-out, two-run homer stretched the lead to 9-1 in the third.
  • The Purple Knights struck for three runs on four fourth-inning hits. Kroeger came around on a wild pitch before sophomore Anthony Azpeitia (Tampa, Fla./King) provided a sacrifice fly and Moran ripped an RBI single with two down.
  • Southern Vermont tacked on three runs in the fifth - with Serrato knocking a two-run double - and three more in the sixth.
  • Gomez's RBI two-bagger scored Stampler in the seventh, but he moved no further as the game's final runner.

THE ACTION

  • Visiting Southern Vermont scored three runs on two hits in the top of the first inning.
  • The Purple Knights countered with three in the home half on four hits, with Allen, Gomez (double) and first-year Sebastian Oetterer (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) hitting consecutive run-scoring knocks.
  • The Mountaineers scored seven straight runs over the second and third innings, with Serrato hitting an RBI single during a two-run second and an RBI double in a five-run third.
  • Allen picked up his second RBI in as many at bats with a run-scoring double in the third to make it 10-4.
  • Southern Vermont scored single runs in the fourth and fifth, while Stampler produced an RBI single in the fourth for Saint Michael's.
  • The Mountaineers tacked on insurance runs in the seventh on Serrato's two-run homer.
