COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College baseball rising senior
Braedon Jones (Williston, Vt./Champlain Valley Union/UMass Dartmouth) and rising junior
Richard Gilboy (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division II Academic All-District honors on Tuesday. They were among 26 Northeast 10 Conference student-athletes recognized.
Â
Jones landed the accolade for the second straight season while winning a pair of contests and striking out 32 batters in 35 innings this spring. On April 4, he yielded two unearned runs on three hits over six innings while fanning six Assumption University hitters in a 5-3 victory. Jones struck out another six Adelphi University batters in his next start while logging five frames in a 13-5 win on April 11. He carried a 3.65 cumulative grade-point average into the spring semester.
Â
As the Purple Knights' regular third baseman, Gilboy drove in 21 runs and scored 15 times behind 29 hits, including six doubles. He had seven multi-hit outings, including a 3-for-5 effort at the University of New Haven on March 23. Gilboy was also 2-for-3 with three RBI and two walks at eventual NCAA East Super Regional runner-up Franklin Pierce University on April 2. Eight days later, he finished 3-for-4 with four RBI against Assumption while knocking his lone home run of the year, a two-run walk-off shot. Gilboy carries a 3.60 GPA into his junior year.

College Sports Communicators recognizes major contributors toting at least a 3.50 GPA by their sophomore seasons. Each school was able to put a maximum number of student-athletes forward for an award that previously necessitated voting. Instead, All-District honorees can now advance directly to the Academic All-America ballot, which still incorporates national membership voting. Through the Academic All-America program, CSC names Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams at each the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III levels, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
