COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College baseball junior
Sam Cavossa (East Falmouth, Mass./The Winchendon School) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference second team on Thursday, as chosen by the league's coaches. He was among 12 outfielders recognized, including four on the second squad.
Â
Cavossa is the third member of his program to land all-conference honors during his program's time in the NE10, between 1990 and 1998 and again since 2012.
Rob Russo '92 (1992) and
Sean Finnell '94 (1993) both landed the accolade, while Purple Knights have been otherwise recognized with 16 NE10 All-Rookie Team and one NE10 All-Defensive Team acknowledgements since 2012 alone.
Â
Cavossa paced the team with a .376 average, .482 slugging percentage and .432 on-base percentage with 53 hits, the most ever by a Purple Knight during the program's NE10 era and second in school annals only to
Matt Beaulieu '10, who had 56 in 2009. He tied for the team lead in runs (27), took second in RBI (23), and walked 11 times to only 14 strikeouts in 155 plate appearances. While seeing time primarily in center and left field, Cavossa also appeared behind the plate. The captain also landed on the NE10 All-Rookie Team in 2023, and owns a .322 average with 121 hits, 68 runs and 60 RBI in 99 career games.
Â
Cavossa is second in the NE10 in hits per game (1.5), thanks in large part to 18 multi-hit outings. He had 13 hits in the final four games, batting .619 in that time. Cavossa is fourth in the NE10 in batting, is the fourth-toughest to strike out, and stands 13th in OBP. He also stole five bases in seven attempts. Cavossa's OBP is the highest by a Purple Knight since
Trevor Allen '19 (.469) in 2019, and his batting average is the best since Beaulieu (.448) in 2009. Only Finnell, who hit .436 in 1993, ever had a higher average than Cavossa during the program's NE10 era.
