FLUSHING, N.Y. - First-year Josh Weiss (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) advanced to the main draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championship on Friday as one of five Saint Michael's College men's tennis players who earned a victory at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The doubles competition began late Friday night, and the tournament continues on Saturday.

TOURNAMENT FACTS
- The Purple Knights had eight players entered in the 128-slot singles qualifiers draw while four doubles tandems were placed among 64 spots in that bracket. Doubles matches began after 9:30 p.m. on Friday.
- Weiss was seeded 29th in the singles qualifier bracket as one of only 32 seeded players. He drew the 10th-highest seed among Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes.
- The United States Tennis Association (USTA) Billie Jean King National Tennis Center has been home to the US Open grand slam event since 1978.
- With the tournament the Purple Knights' first competition of the 2019-20 school year, five student-athletes made their college debuts.
THE ACTION
- Weiss was the lone Purple Knight to claim an opening-round bye and began his college career by downing Saint Thomas Aquinas (N.Y.) College graduate student Matthew Corsie, 8-1, in the second round. With the win, Weiss was one of 32 players from the qualifiers draw who advanced to the main draw's field of 64.
- In his debut with the Purple Knights after transferring from Saint Anselm College, Rosen downed sophomore Gerardo Wibmer of Le Moyne College, 9-7, after trailing 3-1. He advanced to the second round but lost 8-1 to University of Sciences sophomore Borna Markusic, the fifth seed and a qualifier for last year's main draw round of 16.
- Scott saved three match points against Franklin Pierce University first-year Alejandro Ortiz before claiming a 9-7 victory and moving on to the second round, where he fell against 32nd-seeded Christian Erickson, a Le Moyne junior, by an 8-4 count.
- Boucher registered an 8-4 triumph in the opening round over Adelphi University first-year Andrew Ray and put together a strong showing against the sixth seed during the second round before losing an 8-5 decision to Post junior Nino Krneta.
- Krogh bested Post first-year Niklas Langenfeld, 8-1, but lost to Queens (N.Y.) College senior Nicholas Volos, the eighth seed, 8-0, in the second round.
- First-year Seb Tonini (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) lost an 8-6 decision in his college debut to Post University first-year Cooper Smith, senior Matt Mosher (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) dropped an 8-5 outing to Daemen (N.Y.) College junior Jose Williamson III, and first-year Matt Costanza (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) suffered an 8-0 loss to Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College sophomore Matthew Forrest.
