Men's Tennis Blanks Springfield to Begin Dual-Match Play

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Eight different players won as the Saint Michael's College men's tennis team began its dual-match season with a 9-0 victory over Springfield College on Saturday at the Appleton Tennis Courts.

MATCH FACTS

  • Saint Michael's opened its 17-match dual season and four-match fall segment.
  • Eight different players earned a win during the match.
  • The Purple Knights met Springfield for the first time since the 1994-95 season, the Pride's last as a member of the Northeast-10 Conference. While complete records are only available since the mid-1980s, it is believed this is the Purple and Gold's first win ever against Springfield.
  • Saint Michael's last opened the season with a victory on Sept. 17, 2011, against Endicott College.

THE ACTION

  • Mosher and Weiss kicked off the day with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles before Rosen and Tonini followed suit in the third spot during their first match together.
  • Boucher and Scott finished off the doubles sweep by claiming an 8-5 victory at No. 1.
  • Boucher was the first to complete his singles match, taking a 6-2, 6-3 decision in the second spot.
  • Krogh's 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 clinched the Purple Knights' team victory.
  • Weiss yielded only one game in a straight-set win at No. 1 before Scott shut out his foe in the third position.
  • Rosen rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory at No. 4 before Llona notched a 6-3, 6-4 from the sixth slot during his season debut.
