THE ACTION
- The Purple Knights went on a power play less than three minutes into the contest, with first-years Lexi Bonfe (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) and Lucy Drougas (Superior, Wis./Madison Capitols) having shots denied by Smith at 4:41 and 4:49, respectively, during the woman advantage.
- First-year Sheridan Terrazzano rang the post at 10:23, and the visitors had back-to-back bids stopped by Smith a couple minutes later, with first-year Angelina Ruiz (Independence, Minn./Gentry Academy) rejected at 12:10 before classmate Grace Canterbury (Eagle River, Alaska/Shattuck-Saint Mary's School) followed with another shot on net three seconds later.
- Ruiz had another chance to break the deadlock in the late stages, with her initial shot saved at 15:59 before she sent a follow-up bid wide.
- Mudrak made an early stop of first-year Sajel Desai's shot 48 seconds into the second frame before Harrison blocked a second Post attempt.
- Saint Michael's killed two Post power plays during the final five minutes. Junior Sadie Storm sent a pair of shots toward the Purple Knight net on the initial woman advantage, but sophomore Jace Zapata (Brea, Calif./Gentry Academy) blocked the first at 15:37 before Mudrak saved the second. Sophomore Karli Lafferty (Cape May, N.J./Boston Shamrocks) blocked another shot at 17:56 before Mudrak made a stop at 18:35.
- Sophomore Jenna Hoops (Woodbury, Minn./Saint Paul United) was stopped twice by Smith during a power play in the middle of the third frame. At 15:47, Hoops snagged a quick rebound and had space on the left side of the net, but her soft shot was denied when Smith reached back at the goal line for the save.
- The Purple Knights had their first foray into the NCAA's new 3-on-3 overtime period, as Ruiz at 1:54 and first-year Angeline Pitter at 3:58 traded shots on goal. Late in the extra session, a giveaway at the Saint Michael's blue line led to Abeyta breaking in alone on Mudrak, and she found the net at 4:26 for the winner.
