Women's Ice Hockey Falls at Two-Time Defending NEWHA Champion LIU

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost to two-time defending New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) champion Long Island University, 7-0, on Friday afternoon during the opener of a two-game weekend series at the Northwell Health Ice Center. LIU won the 2019-20 NEWHA Tournament before capturing the NEWHA Commissioner's Cup to cap an abbreviated 2020-21 season.

  • White made 17 saves to keep LIU off the board during the first period, including stopping four straight attempts around the four-minute mark before making one stop to help kill a Shark power play that began at 7:40.
  • White had another four stops during a penalty kill early in the second frame before sophomore Payton Luff got the hosts on the board at 2:41, just 33 seconds after the end of the power play.
  • Saint Michael's earned a woman advantage at 4:44, but White made a save on the only shot for either team in that time. She had another five saves in an LIU power play that started at 9:04 before Bouveur tallied a power-play marker with 10:15 gone.
