COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team returned to action for the first time in more than a year on Saturday, losing a 7-0 decision to regionally-ranked Adelphi University during Northeast-10 Conference play on the SMC Tennis Courts. The Purple Knights had last competed on March 6, 2020, also against the Panthers, who were ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region rankings.

THE ACTION
- Much like last year's 5-2 loss to Adelphi, when three singles losses were hotly contested affairs, Saturday's contest featured three close singles matches.
- During doubles play, sophomores Connor Scott (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) and Josh Weiss (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) lost a 6-2 decision at No. 1 in their first match together, while classmates Jason Boucher (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) and Tyler Whitney (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) won one game in the second spot during Whitney's college debut. Sophomores Jack Gunning (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) and Luke Ramsay (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) also saw their first college action while siding at No. 3.
- At No. 1 singles, Weiss had the lengthiest match of the day, winning his opening set by sweeping a tie-breaker before losing a third-set super breaker, coming up on the losing end of a 6-7 (0-7), 6-1, 10-4 result.
- Boucher also went to a tie-breaker in his opening set at No. 2, ultimately falling by a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 count, and Scott played to a close 6-4, 6-3 setback in the third position.
