FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team lost to 2021 NCAA Division III Auburn Regional semifinalist United States Merchant Marine Academy (N.Y.), 8-6, on Monday during the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the Lee County Player Development Complex.

THE ACTION

• Balian's two-run double keyed a three-run bottom of the first.
• Zanetti's two-run single came amid a four-run, five-hit second frame that put the Mariners up 4-3.
• Rogers' one-out RBI single tied the game in the fourth before Lanthier doubled to put two in scoring position, but Payton came out of the bullpen to retire the next two hitters and escape the jam.
• With two down in the sixth, Millen ripped an inside-the-park home run to the right-center alley, and Reistetter later roped an RBI triple to plate an unearned run and give Merchant Marine a 6-4 lead. An unearned run pushed the lead to three in the seventh.
• The Purple Knights loaded the bases with no one out in the eighth, and first-year Terence Moynihan's (Stoneham, Mass./Saint Mary's) groundout scored one run before Klayer set down the next two hitters.
• First-year Travis Leatherwood's RBI double again made it a three-run lead in the ninth.
• Saint Michael's loaded the bases with one out in the home half. Representing the potential winning run, Perron knocked a sac fly that brought home sophomore pinch runner Matt Sevigny (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) before Corb struck out the final hitter.
