THE ACTION
- The Purple Knights left a pair of runners on base in each of the first three innings of a scoreless contest, with Santos being hit by a pitch in the first and singling through the left side in the third during that time.
- Birch walked the bases loaded in the top of the third being inducing a fly ball to escape the jam.
- Birch left two more on base in the fourth, when he helped himself by fielding a potential sac bunt with two on base and getting the lead runner at third for the first out.
- The leadoff man reached base for Saint Michael's in each the fourth and fifth innings, with senior Mitchell Goulet (North Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) getting plunked and Lanthier singling, respectively, before they both advanced via sacrifices but were stranded at second.
- The Royals broke through with a run in the top of the fifth, as Winterfeldt doubled home Koehn with one out.
- Five more Bethel runs scored on six hits in the sixth, with Koehn knocking a two-run double and senior Marcus Krupke adding a two-run triple with two down.
- King scored on Moynihan's sacrifice fly in the seventh to cut the deficit to 6-1.
- Bethel added a run on an eighth-inning error before plating two more in the ninth.
