COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team lost a pair of one-run decisions to Bentley University, 4-3 and 8-7, during a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Sunday at Doc Jacobs Field.

THE ACTION

• Sophomore center fielder Andrew Lanthier (Orwell, Vt./Fair Haven Union) made a nice catch running toward the fence for the first out of the game before ranging in for another challenging catch to end the fifth, leaving Bentley runners at the corners. Halloran's RBI single in the frame gave the visitors a 1-0 edge.
• In between, Lanthier drilled a deep fly ball toward right field with one on and two out in the third, but junior Tim Zupkus went airborne and over the fence to rob Lanthier of a two-run homer.
• In the home half of the fifth, Goulet scorched a one-hopper off of the slick infield grass and off of a Falcon infielder for the tying RBI single with two down.
• The first three Bentley batters reached in the sixth, with sophomore Tyler Gonzalez's RBI single giving the Falcons the lead for good. Zupkus and Halloran added sac flies in the frame, giving the visitors a 4-1 edge.
• Goulet came through with another two-out RBI single in the seventh, and first-year Filly Santos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Park West) beat out a near-double-play ball to plate classmate Terence Moynihan (Stoneham, Mass./Saint Mary's) with two down in the eighth.
• In a one-run game, Cianciolo led off the ninth with a single up the middle and moved up 90 feet on Santosuosso's sac bunt, but Mahan retired the final two batters.

THE ACTION

• Auditore's two-out RBI single gave Bentley a third-inning lead.
• After only one of the first 10 Purple Knights reached - Sevigny doubled with two out in the third - Saint Michael's scored three runs on four hits in the fourth. Cianciolo's double to the gap scored Moynihan with the tying run before Santos' two-run single up the middle gave the hosts a 3-1 edge.
• Bentley scored four runs in the fifth, keyed by Zupkus' two-out, two-run single.
• The Purple Knights fought back for a tie on Sevigny's two-out knock during the sixth inning.
• In a 5-5 game and two out in the seventh, the Falcons caught a break when a popup was lost in the sky by two infielders, and Beauregard came home with the go-ahead run. Halloran followed with a two-run double but was out trying to extend the hit to a triple on a 9-6-5 relay Goulet started from the fence.
• Luciano and Balian started the home half with consecutive singles before being stranded.
• Moynihan was plunked to begin the bottom of the ninth, and Luciano followed with a two-run homer to left center to cut the deficit to 8-7. Morganelli came out of the bullpen to retire the next two batters before Garcia singled up the middle, bringing the winning run to the plate with two out. The final batter flew out to center.
