COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College softball junior
Jenna Devens (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference first team on Wednesday, while classmate
Kaylee Morey (Stonington, Maine/Deer Isle-Stonington) was selected for the NE10 All-Defensive Team.
Devens is among 44 all-league honorees from around the NE10, and one of 13 chosen for the first team, earning recognition at the second base position. She becomes the sixth three-time NE10 All-Conference selection in program history. Morey was one of 12 NE10 All-Defensive Team picks, and the lone third baseman on the squad.
Devens added to a career résumé that includes being named the 2022 NE10 Rookie of the Year and a 2022 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-East Region selection, when she earned a spot on the NE10 All-Conference first team as a designated player. Devens was an NE10 All-Conference third team pick last season at first base and joins
Whitney Christmas '05,
Noelle Gill '05,
Casey Brooks '07,
Meggan Roberge '07 and
Torie Rathwell '20 as the only three-time all-league players in program annals. Devens is one of four - along with Brooks, Roberge and
Ashley Harkins '09, all Saint Michael's Athletic Hall of Famers - to earn a pair of first team nods.
Devens leads the NE10 in batting average (.416), on-base percentage (.560) and walks (28) while taking fourth in slugging (.614), tying for 10th in home runs (4), and tying for 12th in RBI (22). Her batting average is 23 points better than the runner-up, and her OBP is 51 points clear of second place. Devens' OBP, which is seventh in NCAA Division II, was good for third in program history, short only of figures
Carol Sarno '80 (.610) and
Kathy O'Neil '81 (.600) posted during the 1978 season. She set school records for walks this season, striking out just 12 times, and added 11 runs, eight doubles and five times being hit by a pitch. Also one of two primary pitchers, Devens posted three victories in 12 games, including 11 starts, while striking out 28 batters in 60 innings.
One of the Purple Knights' captains, Devens reached base via a hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in 32 of 36 games, turning in 12 multi-hit outings, including a trio of three-hit performances. Her four walks in the nightcap at Saint Anselm College on April 23 were the most by a Purple Knight in at least 20 years. Despite being pitched around for much of the season, Devens drove in runs in 13 games, with four multi-RBI showings. In the circle, she allowed two earned runs or fewer eight times, including during a five-hit shutout of American International College on April 14.
Heading into her senior year, Devens already holds school records for career home runs (21) and RBI (80) in addition to standing second in career doubles (29) and walks (56), and fourth in hits (137).
Morey has become one of the top infielders in the league, setting a school record with 105 assists, a league-leading figure, while appearing in all 36 games, making 35 starts; the second-place players from Adelphi University and Southern New Hampshire University have 13 fewer in 11 and six additional games, respectively. However, those players combined for 28 errors - Morey committed only five, finishing with a .965 fielding percentage. Among the nine NE10 student-athletes with at least 70 assists, no one but Morey had a fielding percentage as high as .950. Batting in the heart of the order, Morey hit .252 this season while driving in 13 runs and scoring nine more.
Across the entire NCAA Division II East Region, which includes the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and East Coast Conference (ECC), Morey is fourth in assists - five short of the leader, who has played six more games - but owns the highest fielding percentage among players with 70 assists.
