Three Softball Student-Athletes Claim CSC Academic All-District Accolades

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Three Saint Michael's College softball student-athletes qualified for College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division II Academic All-District honors on Tuesday.

Recent graduate Angelica Johns (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook), rising senior Jenna Devens (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) and rising junior Brooke Edgerly (Morley, Mich./Morley Stanwood) were among 32 Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes recognized.

College Sports Communicators, formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), moved to a qualification system for All-District accolades last year, with major contributors toting at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average by their sophomore seasons eligible. Each school was able to put student-athletes forward for an award that previously necessitated voting. Instead, All-District honorees can now advance directly to the Academic All-America ballot, which will still incorporate national membership voting.

Johns was recognized by CSC for the second time in her career after placing seventh in the NE10 in batting average (.358), tying for 10th in hits (43), and taking 12th in slugging percentage (.517). She added 21 runs, 13 RBI, seven doubles and two home runs while walking six times and striking out on just five occasions this spring. The middle infielder graduated fifth in program history in career hits (130), fifth in runs (57), and tied for sixth in doubles (22). Johns has earned a pair of Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) Academic Achievement Awards, qualified for the NE10 Academic Honor Roll every semester, and landed the Department of Athletics' Diane C. Foster '77 Award, which recognizes compassion, sacrifice and service to others, earlier this month. Johns completed a degree in psychology two weeks ago while holding a 3.81 GPA.

Devens earned her second career CSC Academic All-District honor in a year when she was named NE10 All-Conference for the third time and landed her second National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-East Region accolade. Devens led the NE10 in batting average (.416), on-base percentage (.560) and walks (28) while taking third in slugging (.614). She set a school record for walks this season, striking out just 12 times, and added four home runs, 22 RBI, 11 runs, eight doubles and five times being hit by a pitch. Also one of two primary pitchers, Devens posted three victories in 12 games, including 11 starts, while striking out 28 batters in 60 innings. Heading into her senior year, Devens already holds school records for career home runs (21) and RBI (80). The digital media & communications major earned a 2023 D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, has qualified for the NE10 Academic Honor Roll every semester, and holds a 3.74 GPA.

Edgerly put together a career year with 25 hits, 14 runs and five stolen bases while playing stellar defense in center field, where she picked up six assists. She batted .303 in her final 21 games, turning in three-hit outings at Bentley University and versus the University of New Haven. Edgerly, who has qualified for the NE10 Academic Honor Roll all four semesters, carries a 3.91 GPA as a secondary education and English double major.

Through the Academic All-America program, CSC names separate Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams at each the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III levels, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
