Jenna Devens Earns Second Career NFCA All-East Region Laurel

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College softball junior Jenna Devens (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) was chosen for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-East Region second team, the organization announced on Thursday, becoming the first member of her program to land two career all-region accolades.

Twenty-eight student-athletes claimed NFCA All-East Region honors, with 13 placed on the first team and 15 more selected for the second team. Devens was among 13 Northeast-10 Conference representatives, securing a second team slot for her play at second base. As a first-year, she was a second team honoree as a designated player and non-pitcher utility player. Devens, Meggan (Roberge) Dulude '07 and Fallon Tierney '19 are the Purple Knights' lone all-region players, with Dulude landing Daktronics All-Northeast Region first team honors as a senior and Tierney being chosen for the NFCA All-East Region second team as a sophomore.

Devens added to a career résumé that includes being named 2022 NE10 Rookie of the Year along with posting NE10 All-Conference accolades each year, at three different positions, including a pair of first team nods.

Among all NCAA East Region players, Devens is second in on-base percentage (.560), second in walks per game (0.78) and eighth in batting average (.416). Devens leads the NE10 in batting average, OBP and walks (28) while taking fourth in slugging (.614), tying for 11th in home runs (4), and tying for 13th in RBI (22). Her batting average is 35 points better than the runner-up, and her OBP is 51 points clear of second place. Devens' OBP, which is seventh in NCAA Division II, was good for third in program history, short only of figures Carol Sarno '80 (.610) and Kathy O'Neil '81 (.600) posted during the 1978 season. She set school records for walks this season, striking out just 12 times, and added 11 runs, eight doubles and five times being hit by a pitch. Also one of two primary pitchers, Devens posted three victories in 12 games, including 11 starts, while striking out 28 batters in 60 innings.

One of the Purple Knights' captains, Devens reached base via a hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in 32 of 36 games, turning in 12 multi-hit outings, including a trio of three-hit performances. Her four walks in the nightcap at Saint Anselm College on April 23 were the most by a Purple Knight in at least 20 years. Despite being pitched around for much of the season, Devens drove in runs in 13 games, with four multi-RBI showings. In the circle, she allowed two earned runs or fewer eight times, including during a five-hit shutout of American International College on April 14.

Heading into her senior year, Devens already holds school records for career home runs (21) and RBI (80) in addition to standing second in career doubles (29) and walks (56), and fourth in hits (137).
