Lavender Named NEWHA Goalie of the Week, Quinn Lands Top Defender Nod

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey senior Annika Lavender (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) was named New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Goalie of the Week and junior Maddie Quinn (Chicago, Ill./Team Illinois AAA) landed NEWHA Defensive Player of the Week accolades for the week ending on Sunday, Oct. 12.

Lavender posted a 0.97 goals-against average, a .980 save percentage and 48.5 saves per game while helping the Purple Knights take four points from defending NEWHA regular-season champion Long Island University over the weekend. Lavender notched 45 saves while limiting the Sharks only to a goal with 1:43 left in overtime during a 1-0 loss on Friday before denying another 52 shots in a 3-1 win on Saturday. She made 17 saves in a shutout third period alone and 21 on five scoreless LIU power plays. For the weekend, Lavender keyed the Purple Knights holding the Sharks to an 0-for-9 showing with a woman advantage.

Lavender is third in the nation in save percentage (.965) and 14th in GAA (1.65), both of which are good for second in the NEWHA. She paces the league in saves per game (46.3). Lavender moved past the 2,400-save plateau for her career (2,419) on Saturday and is now 94 short of Erin Stevens' '13 (2,513) school record. She is also second in minutes (3,564:16) to Stevens (4,262:49).

Quinn scored a game-winning goal, blocked 12 shots, aided a defense that allowed only two goals, and finished +2 while helping the Purple Knights take four points from defending NEWHA regular-season champion LIU over the weekend. Quinn blocked six shots on Friday, when Saint Michael's limited the Sharks to only a goal with 1:43 left in overtime during a 1-0 loss. On Saturday, Quinn's strike at 6:54 of the third period proved to be the difference in a 3-1 victory. She went +3 and blocked another six shots. For the season, Quinn has 18 blocks in four contests, and now owns 163 in 65 career outings.

Now 1-3 overall and 1-3 in NEWHA play, the Purple Knights break from league play with a contest on Friday at Harvard University at 6 p.m. Saint Michael's takes on its first Ivy League foe with the affair.
