Joelle Cameron Named NFHCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week for Second Time

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College field hockey senior Joelle Cameron (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) was named National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday for the second time this year, landing the national accolade for the week ending on Sunday, Oct. 19. On Monday, she landed her third Northeast 10 Conference honor of the fall.

Cameron broke the NCAA Division II record for season saves while posting a 1.44 goals-against average, .943 save percentage and 25.0 saves per game in a 1-1 week. She yielded only three goals in 146:19. She made 16 stops in a 2-1 overtime loss against Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday before adding 34 saves in a 2-1 victory clinched in a shootout at Molloy University on Saturday, when she stuffed the Lions' final shootout attempt.

Cameron owns 346 saves this fall, breaking a 22-year-old NCAA Division II mark held by Mansfield University's Heather Long (341). Her save total is the highest by any NCAA keeper since Division III Cedar Crest College's Kaitlyn Brendlinger made 348 in 2013. Cameron leads all NCAA Division I, II and III netminders with 24.7 saves per game this season while placing sixth in Division II in save percentage (.820). She is also just the 12th NE10 netminder with 500 saves in a career, pushing her total to 521 last week.

The Purple Knights host No. 8 Assumption University on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Greyhounds' national ranking is according to this week's NFHCA poll.
