Simonson and Woods Sign Professional Box Lacrosse Contracts with Colorado Mammoth

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse alumni Nathan Woods '24 and Sebastian Simonson '25 both signed three-year contracts with the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) last week. The duo inked deals with the professional box lacrosse team before training camp began this week in Lakewood, Colo.

A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Woods has been signed as a defenseman after aiding the Purple Knights as a short-stick midfielder. In 50 career contests at Saint Michael's, he totaled 39 goals, 25 assists, 77 ground balls and 39 caused turnovers. As a senior, Woods landed United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America honorable mention and USA Lacrosse All-America honorable mention accolades. He also earned USILA All-North Region that year and a pair of New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-New England and Northeast 10 Conference All-Conference nods, being placed on the all-league first team his senior year.

Simonson hails from Spruce Grove, Alberta, and was signed as a forward. Between his junior and senior years, he claimed four All-America honors, including landing on the USILA second team last spring, to cap a career in which he earned more than a dozen athletic awards. As a senior, he was NEILA Player of the Year and NE10 Offensive Player of the Year, notching 68 points, 36 goals and 32 helpers to set school records for points and assists. While also posting program marks for career goals (134) and points (213), the senior captain finished 15th in NE10 history in points and 17th in goals. The second three-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-America selection in College history was further lauded last spring as NE10 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, recognizing the top senior male student-athlete across the conference's 24 sports.

The Mammoth, whose franchise history dates to 1987 prior to moving to Denver in 2003, is owned by Stan Kroenke, owner of other pro sports organizations Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Denver Nuggets (NBA) and Colorado Rapids (MLS). It plays in Ball Arena, also home of the Avalanche and Nuggets, and won its second league title in 2022, claiming Western Conference crowns as recently as 2022 and 2023. The Mammoth's 18-game regular-season schedule begins on Nov. 29. Learn more at coloradomammoth.com.
