Joelle Cameron Earns NFHCA All-America Second Team Accolade

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College field hockey senior Joelle Cameron (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) earned a spot on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II All-America second team on Tuesday. She joined Emma Albee of national champion Shippensburg University as the only Division II goalkeepers to land All-America accolades.

Cameron becomes just the third NFHCA All-America netminder in program history, joining SMC Athletic Hall of Famer Meghan Scalley '02 (2000) and Jackie Chisholm '15 (2014). All were named to the second team.

On Tuesday, Cameron was among 32 student-athletes named All-America, with 16 selected for each the first and second teams. Eight of the women hailed from Northeast 10 Conference squads.

The All-America nod caps an awards-filled fall for Cameron, who was named NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year and to the NFHCA All-East Region first team. The captain was also chosen for the NFHCA Senior Team and earned a spot on the NE10 All-Conference first team.

Cameron finished as the NCAA Division II national leader in save percentage (.835), saves (429) and saves per game (25.2), pacing netminders across all three divisions in the latter two categories. She was 15th across all three divisions in save percentage, with her figure six points clear of the No. 2 netminder - Albee - in Division II.

Cameron broke a 22-year-old NCAA Division II record with 429 saves this fall, the most by a goalkeeper in any of the NCAA's three divisions since 1997. Along the way, she also surpassed long-standing NE10 (2003) and program (1988) records for season saves. Cameron's 604 career saves are another school standard, put her 10th in NE10 annals, and are the most by all active NCAA goalkeepers. She will graduate tied for ninth in Saint Michael's history with a .830 career save percentage.

Cameron owned the top five game save totals in Division II this season and eight of the best nine. On Sept. 7 against defending national runner-up Kutztown University, Cameron tied a 33-year-old Division II record with 45 saves, also surpassing a 44-year-old school mark and a 24-year-old league standard. Just 10 days later, she reset all records with another 48 stops against defending national champion Saint Anselm College. Cameron added back-to-back 34-save outings in mid-October.
