Poirier Named to NEILA Division I/II Team of the Week

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse sophomore Noah Poirier (Dalton, Mass./Wahconah Regional) was among seven student-athletes named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division I/II Team of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, April 19.

Poirier went 33-for-43 on faceoffs with 25 ground balls during a 2-0 week. He was a perfect 21-for-21 with 17 ground balls in a 15-7 win over Franklin Pierce University that Tuesday before going 12-for-22 with eight more ground balls in a 13-9 win over No. 20 Bentley University on Saturday. Poirier stands ninth in the nation and third in the NE10 in faceoff percentage (.665) and 11th in Division II and fourth in the NE10 in ground balls per game (7.8). His 171 faceoff wins and 101 ground balls this season are both good for second in program history.

Now 19th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national poll and seventh in the NCAA North Region rankings, the Purple Knights are 9-4 and will hold down the No. 5 seed in the upcoming NE10 Championship. They visit fourth-seeded Assumption University, the 16th-ranked team in the nation, for a first-round contest on Saturday at 12 p.m. The Greyhounds are also fifth in the regional poll.
