Davis Named NE10 Co-Rookie of the Year, Smith Earns Top Coaching Honors

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse first-year Chris Davis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) was named Northeast 10 Conference Co-Rookie of the Year and head coach Alex Smith landed NE10 Coach of the Year on Monday, as voted upon by the league's coaches. The pair of accolades highlighted six postseason league awards earned by Purple Knights.

Davis, who shared his major honor with American International College first-year Dameer Phifer, became the initial member of his program to claim a league rookie of the year award. He and first-year Zeke Peraza (Los Angeles, Calif./Saint Francis) were among 16 selections to the NE10 All-Rookie Team, and sophomores Nate Gulachenski (Southboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) and Matt O'Donnell (Marshfield, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) were named to the NE10 All-Conference third team. Smith earned his second NE10 Coach of the Year accolade in three seasons, joining Jeff Culkin as the only two-time league coaches of the year in program history.

Davis owns 28 goals, 14 assists and 27 ground balls from the attack, leading the team in goals, assists and points (42). He potted six hat tricks and scored in 12 of 14 games, including netting three goals to key an 11-10 comeback win over No. 17 Southern New Hampshire University on March 21. Davis scored four goals with eight ground balls against Walsh University on Feb. 15 and scored five times versus D'Youville University on March 8.

After appearing for 1:55 in net as a rookie in 2025, Gulachenski backstopped the Purple Knights to a 17-5 win over D'Youville by making nine saves on March 8 in his first college start before becoming a regular by virtue of making seven saves in relief to key that victory against Southern New Hampshire on March 21. The netminder has a .592 save percentage and an 8.50 goals-against average, including averaging 16.0 saves in four contests with nationally-ranked Assumption University, Pace University and Saint Anselm College.

O'Donnell contributed as a short-stick defensive midfielder, keying the Purple and Gold's transition game and faceoff unit by scooping 41 ground balls and causing nine turnovers. He picked up at least one ground ball in every contest, nabbing five apiece against nationally-ranked Pace and Southern New Hampshire. Saint Michael's is 15th in the nation in faceoff winning percentage (61.5%), with its highest figure since 2002.

Peraza posted 16 goals, nine assists and 29 ground balls out of the midfield, scoring at least one point in 12 of 14 games. He recorded two goals, an assist and three ground balls in a 13-9 win over 20th-ranked Bentley University on April 18 while scoring once and providing four ground balls and two caused turnovers in a 6-5 loss to No. 6 Pace on March 28, aiding the Purple Knights' top defensive effort against a top-10 team in 15 years.

Smith guided the Purple Knights to the postseason despite graduating the top scorer in program history, the program's record-breaking faceoff man, one of the program's winningest goalies, and a standout second scoring option. At 9-5, Saint Michael's suffered every loss to nationally-ranked foes, with four of those setbacks coming by two goals or less. The Purple and Gold went 4-4 in league play to claim the No. 5 seed in the NE10 Championship and was seventh in last week's NCAA North Region rankings. Smith's squad remains on the brink of its first NCAA Tournament berth, with the top eight teams from the North earning bids, including four at-large nods up for grabs.
