SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College
women's ice hockey team (4-18, 3-14 ECAC East) was defeated
by Saint Anselm College (15-6, 13-2 ECAC East), 7-0, on Saturday
afternoon at Cairns Arena in ECAC East action.
For the Hawks, freshman Kathleen Twomey
(Londonderry, N.H./Lady
Monarchs) notched three goals and classmate
Samantha Rowe
(Chelmsford,
Mass./South
Coast Sharks) picked up a pair of
goals and added an assist, while sophomore Andrea Berlin
(Durham, N.H./Oyster
River) stopped all nine shots she faced.
For the Purple Knights, senior Annice Mason (Berlin,
Vt./U-32) made 45 saves in the team's final
home game of the season, and the final contest at Cairns Arena for
three Saint Michael's seniors: Mason,
Michelle Miaskiewicz (Salem, Mass./North Shore
Vipers), and Sarah Walker (Middlebury,
Vt./Middlebury Union).
Twomey scored what stood to be the game winner at
the 4:25 mark of the first period off of assists by sophomore
Brittany Kretzman
(Edina,
Minn./Edina) and senior
Emily Lapworth (Milton, Mass./Sacred Heart),
and scored her second of the game, 8:50 later, to put her team up
2-0 entering the first intermission.
With Saint Anselm up 4-0, Twomey completed the
hat-trick with 2:35 remaining in the second period with a goal off
of a feed from sophomore Jessica Tobin
(Milton,
Mass./Fontbonne
Academy).
Saint Michael's will travel to Manhattanville College on
Saturday for a 3 p.m. match-up, while Saint Anselm will play New
England College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
