SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice
hockey team (2-1-1, 2-1-1 ECAC East) suffered its first loss of the
season on Saturday, falling to Saint Anselm College, 7-0, in ECAC
East action at Cairns Arena.
Seven different players recorded a goal for Saint Anselm (5-0-0,
4-0-0 ECAC East), as the Hawks held a 53-13 advantage in shots on
goal. Senior Arden Lyons (Westford, Mass.) and
juniors Bianca DeSantis (Georgetown, Mass.) and
Kathleen Twomey (Londonderry, N.H.) each tallied a
goal and an assist apiece for the Hawks, while sophomore
Jen Taylor (Canandaigua, N.Y.) recorded the
shutout in net with 13 saves.
For Saint Michael's, junior Melanie Cullen
(Derry, N.H./Pinkerton
Academy) recorded 46 saves, including 20 in the first
period.
Saint Anselm took control early, as DeSantis scored just 46 seconds
into the contest to give the Hawks the lead for good. Goals by

Mass.) and senior Lindsay
Snow (Amherst,
N.H.) increased Saint Anselm's
lead to 3-0 after one period. Second-period goals by Twomey and
sophomore Arianna Rigano
(Malden,
Mass.) boosted the Hawks' lead to
5-0, and third-period tallies by Lyons and classmate Tiea
Kurlowecz (Concord,
Mass.) completed the scoring.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Friday, as the Purple Knights
visit Sacred Heart University for a 7 p.m. contest.
