PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey
team (1-3-1, 1-2-1 ECAC East) earned its first victory of the
season on Saturday afternoon, doubling up Plymouth State
University, 4-2.
Junior Madelena Santore (Millington, N.J./New Jersey
Rockets/Rutgers Univ.) scored her team-leading fourth goal
of the season - which proved to be the game-winner - for the Purple
Knights. Senior Kelly Rose Losi (Milton,
Mass./Milton), junior Emily Elliott (Casper,
Wyo./Colorado Selects), and sophomore Allison Graf
(Long Lake, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds) also scored
goals for Saint Michael's, while senior Meghan Colitti
(Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) handed out two assists for
the second straight game. Sophomore Erin Stevens
(Watertown, Conn./Connecticut Polar Bears) stopped 24
shots in net to pick up her second collegiate win.
For Plymouth (0-3-0), Jane Baruch and
Rebecca Fogg each scored a goal, while Ali
Ponte and Nicole Provencher combined to stop 22 shots in
net.
Losi opened the scoring for Saint Michael's late in the first
period with a power-play tally. Saint Michael's increased its lead
to 3-0 with a pair of goals 90 second apart midway through the
second period. Plymouth pulled to within 3-1 with 4:38 left in the
second frame on Baruch's tally, but less than a minute later,
Elliott restored the Purple Knights' three-goal lead with an
even-strength score.
The Panthers cut their deficit to 4-2 just 1:11 into the third
period, but that was as close as the hosts would get, as Plymouth
was undone by a pair of penalties in the final frame.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Friday with a 4 p.m.
home game versus the University of Massachusetts Boston at Cairns
Arena.
