SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team (0-3-0, 0-2-0 ECAC East) dropped its second straight one-goal decision in as many games on Saturday, falling to Castleton State College, 2-1.
Sophomore Erin Stevens (Watertown, Conn./Connecticut Polar Bears) stopped 18 shots in her season debut for the Purple Knights, while junior Madelena Santore (Millington, N.J./New Jersey Rockets/Rutgers Univ.) scored her second goal in as many games, off of an assist from senior Emily Paquin (Bowie, Md./Washington Pride).
For Castleton (2-2-0), Amy Costa and Jade Werger scored in the first 25 minutes of play, with Werger's even-strength tally snapping a 1-all tie and holding up as the game-winner. Amanda Hoy record 23 saves - including 20 in the final two period - to pick up the victory for the visitors.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Friday with a 7 p.m. contest at the University of Southern Maine.
