Bears score five unanswered goals to down Purple Knights in first game of weekend series

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Saint Michael's women's hockey team (2-7-1, 1-4-1 ECAC East) fell to Potsdam State 5-2 on Friday in the first of two non-conference games at the Maxcy Ice Arena this weekend.
The Purple Knights struck first and took an early lead on freshman
Michelle Doherty's (Chelmsford, Mass./East Coast Wizard) first career goal just 1:32 into her first collegiate game. Doherty, who was sidelined for the first nine games while recovering from a concussion, netted her first goal on an assist from junior leading-scorer
Madelena Santore (Millington, N.J./New Jersey Rockets/Rutgers Univ.).
The Bears countered with five unanswered goals from five different players to secure the win. Junior Caitlin Manahan (Saint Albans, Vt./Elmira College) led the way for Potsdam with a goal and assist.

Emily Paquin (Bowie, Md./Washington Pride) chipped in a late third period power play goal, assisted by Doherty and sophomore
Allison Graf (Long Lake, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds).
Sophomore
Erin Stevens (Watertown, Conn./Conn. Polar Bears) made a career-high 59 saves in the loss, and Potsdam's sophomore goalie
Jen Conophy (Glenmont, N.Y./Albany Ice Cats) stopped 25 shots.
The Purple Knights play a rematch with Potsdam tomorrow at 1 p.m.
