POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Saint Michael's women's hockey team (2-8-1, 1-4-1 ECAC East) fell 6-3 to Potsdam State on Saturday in the second game of a weekend series at the Maxcy Ice Arena. The Purple Knights battled to a 2-2 tie in the first period, but three goals in the second and a final goal in the third period but the Bears ahead for good.
For Saint Michael's, junior
Kelly McDonald (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) registered an unassisted power play goal, and junior
Emily Elliott (Casper, Wyo./Colorado Selects) scored on an assist from senior
Kelly Rose Losi (Milton, Mass./Milton) to tie things up at 2-all after one period.
Potsdam answered with two power play goals, including the game-winner and second goal of the game for freshman Emma Smetaniuk (Frankford, Ontario/Whitby Wolves), before senior Meghan Collitti's (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) unassisted goal brought Saint Michael's back within one. The Bears would tack on two more goals, however, and complete the weekend sweep.
Senior
Alysia Goldman (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Hebron Academy) handled goalie duties for the Purple Knights and made 46 saves. Freshman goalie
Dawn Salvarinas (Mississauga, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) stopped 27 shots while picking up her first career win for Potsdam.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Dec. 31 against Colby in the opening game of the SMC Holiday Classic at Cairns Arena.
