CANTON, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team
(6-24-1) suffered a pair of losses at Saint Lawrence University on
Saturday, falling in game one, 8-0, and dropping a narrow 5-4
contest in the nightcap.
Senior Tony Bonvechio (Newport, Vt./North Country Union) belted
a three-run home run in the ninth inning of game two for the Purple
Knights. Senior Jeff McLaughlin (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) added three
singles and a run scored, while sophomore Chad Estey (New Haven,
Vt./Mount Abraham Union) doubled and singles, scoring a run.
Sophomore Patrick Lawler (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) singled twice
and drove in a run, while freshman Andrew Kelley (Woodsville,
N.H./Lin-Wood) took the loss, allowing five runs and 13 hits in
seven innings.
For Saint Lawrence, Matt DeLuca was a perfect 4-for-4 at the
plate with a run scored and an RBI, while Bryan Brennan went
3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Ethan Braddock added a triple,
single, and two runs scored, while Pat Considine improved to 4-0 on
the mound, as he allowed just one run in six innings of work.
In the opener, Chris Cook pitched a four-hit shutout as Saint
Lawrence (16-14) bested the Purple Knights. Carter Franza doubled
twice, scored two runs and drove in a pair to lead the Saints,
while Ryan Duff doubled, singled, recorded two RBIs and scored a
run.
For Saint Michael's, sophomore Austin Ziskie (Chevy Chase,
Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) took the loss, allowing five earned runs
in four innings, while Lawler's double was the lone extra-base hit
for the Purple Knights.
