COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College men's soccer
team knocked off #25 Southern Connecticut State University 1-0 on
Saturday at Duffy Field. The hard fought victory spelled the
nationally-ranked Owls' first loss of the season and featured 29
fouls and four cautions between the relentless squads.
Southern Connecticut (4-1-0, 2-1-0 NE-10) came out firing and
outshot Saint Michael's 8-4 in the first half. The Purple Knights
(5-1-0, 2-0-0 NE-10) struck first, however, and notched the only
goal of the game as junior Rob Irving (Oradell, N.J./Don
Bosco Prep) blasted in a header off senior Ryan
Gannon's (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy (Central Conn.
St.)) corner kick late in the first half.
Saint Michael's sophomore goalie Logan
Kingman (New Bern, N.C./New Bern) earned his third
shutout of the season and made seven saves against a potent Owls
offense. Senior keeper Chris Rybacki (Putnam, Conn./Putnam
(Central Conn. St.)) stopped three shots for Southern
Connecticut.
The Purple Knights hit the road to face Saint Anselm on
Wednesday at 4 p.m.
