Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team fell to Adelphi University, 2-0, on Saturday during a Northeast-10 Conference contest at Motamed Field. The Purple Knights slipped to 5-8-1 overall and 4-7-1 in conference play, while Adelphi improved to 7-5 and 6-5.
Saint Michael's senior keeper Brittany Cocozza (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich/Saint John's [N.Y.]) made three saves, extending her shutout streak to 342:49 before the Panthers netted their first goal in the 39th minute. Cocozza made two stops in the first half.
For the Panthers, junior Emily Masiello (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) and sophomore Sarah Cote (Lunenburg, Mass./Lunenburg) each netted one goal. Freshman keeper Sam Whitney (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) recorded three saves in the shutout.
The Panthers netted their first goal at 38:18, with Masiello tapping the ball over Cocozza from 10 yards out. The score remained 1-0 until 57:55, when Cote converted off a pass with a shot to the lower left corner of the net. With a little more than 15 minutes left in the game, Saint Michael's freshman Olivia Biron (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) found herself alone with the keeper and sent a dangerous shot, causing Whitney to make a diving save. Biron sent another shot high in the 76th minute.
The Purple Knights return to home action on Wednesday, hosting the nationally-ranked College of Saint Rose for a 3:15 p.m. start. The Golden Knights are seventh in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll and second in this past week's East regional rankings.
