 PAXTON, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team defeated Assumption College, 7-2, on Sunday in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Paxton Sports Center. The Purple Knights improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in league action, while the Greyhounds slipped to 1-6 and 0-4.

Junior Chris Moskal (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) and sophomore Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) notched a narrow 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles, while senior Brian Healey (Ware, Mass./Belchertown) and junior Eric Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C./Pinecrest/Trinity [Conn.]) captured an 8-5 win in the No. 3 doubles position.
In singles play, five Purple Knights tallied wins in straight sets. In the first position, Bosco captured a 6-2, 6-3 victory, Healey won by a 6-4, 6-2 count at No. 4, while junior Kenny Vassallo (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) was victorious at six, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2 and 3, Parziale and senior Sam Cieplicki (South Burlington, Vt./New Hampton School) both won decisively in the first set before taking the second set in a tie-breaker. Cieplicki won 6-3, 7-6 at two, while Parziale notched a 6-2, 7-6 triumph at three.
Thus concluded a busy weekend for the Purple Knights, who also played at home on Saturday, and for Parziale, who appeared in the final 19 minutes of the men's soccer team's 1-0 loss at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass., yesterday. He subbed in during the 71st minute while the visitors looked to net the equalizer.
Saint Michael's heads to Franklin Pierce University next Sunday for an NE-10 contest at 1 p.m., when the Purple Knights close the fall portion of their 2011-12 schedule.
