Box Score

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team notched its first win of the year by scoring a season-high four goals in a 4-0 victory over Plymouth State University in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East action on Saturday at Hanaway Rink. With the win, the Purple Knights improve to 1-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while the Panthers drop to 0-2 and 0-2.

Senior Madelena Santore (Millington, N.J./New Jersey Rockets) tallied a pair of goals for Saint Michael's, while classmate Melissa Hallisey (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) and junior Tracy Stevenson (Wayne, Maine/Kents Hill School) added one goal apiece. The marker was the first of Stevenson's career. Sophomore Maire Bartkus (Acton, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) and first-year Amanda Kempainen (Chazy, N.Y./Chazy Flyers U19) each provided two assists, and senior Erin Stevens (Watertown, Conn./Connecticut Polar Bears) made 25 saves to pick up her first career shutout.

Junior goaltender Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ontario/Stouffville Jr. Stars) turned away 29 shots for Plymouth State.

Hallisey converted a rebound 6:41 into the opening period, on assists from senior Allison Graf (Long Lake, Minn./Minnesota Thoroughbreds) and first-year Kaly Spilhaus (Bourne, Mass./Charles River), to put the Purple Knights on top, 1-0.

Santore put Saint Michael's ahead, 2-0, with a shot from the right circle at 12:02 into the second frame on assists from Kempainen and senior Lisa D'Angelo (Suffield, Conn./Kingswood Oxford). Santore connected again for a power-play goal 16:17 into the second period on assists by Bartkus and Kempainen, and Stevenson scored just 14 seconds later on an assist from Bartkus to cap a three-goal spurt in a matter of 4:29. Stevens denied all six Plymouth State attempts in the third period to preserve the shutout.

Saint Michael's returns home next weekend, as it faces Saint Anselm College on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting the University of Massachusetts at Boston at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
