SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - In the second game of a two-contest series, the Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team fell to Lindenwood (Mo.) University, 9-1, on Saturday at Cairns Arena. Junior Erin Stevens (Watertown, Conn./Connecticut Polar Bears) broke the school record for saves in a season for the 3-18-1 Purple Knights, while the Lions completed their campaign on a six-game winning streak and with an 8-21 mark.

In the teams' first meeting, Saint Michael's took Lindenwood to overtime on Friday, falling by a 6-5 count against a team that will compete in a Division I conference next winter.

Stevens finished with 44 stops, as her 741 saves this season eclipsed Melanie Cullen's '09 2007-08 mark of 736. Sophomore Courtney Burnett (Deep River, Ontario/Northwood School) recorded her first career goal.

Freshman Alyssa West (Macomb, Mich./Little Caesars U19) paced Lindenwood with two goals and four assists, while classmate Caitlyn Post (Clarkston, Mich./Little Caesars U19) added a pair of markers and a helper. Sophomore Samantha Redick (Anchorage, Alaska/Team Alaska U19) scored twice, and freshman Briar Bache (Barrie, Ontario/Aurora Panthers) made 11 saves.

Junior Melissa Coughlin (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) zoomed in on a breakaway less than three minutes into the contest while looking to put the Purple Knights on the board, but Bache turned her shot aside. Lindenwood countered by posting four goals in the period, with the first three coming in a 4:55 stretch. Redick netted a pair, and West capped the scoring with a power-play marker at 14:35.

Stevens made 21 stops in the second period alone, with the visitors scoring three times more, including a pair by Post, and West dished off on both of her team's third-stanza goals. Burnett put the Purple Knights on the board 4:20 into the final period, and Stevens' 40th stop, at the 10:24 mark, was her record-breaking save.

The Purple Knights complete a regular-season-ending four-game homestand next weekend with a pair of contests, beginning on Friday against the College of the Holy Cross at 4 p.m.
