WALTHAM, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference match to regionally-ranked Bentley University, the two-time defending NE-10 Tournament champion, by a count of 9-0 on Sunday at the Bentley Tennis Courts. The Purple Knights slipped to 4-4 overall and 3-4 in the conference, while the Falcons, who have made it to five of the past six NCAA Tournaments, are ranked fourth in the East region according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and improve to 11-4 and 7-0.
The visitors opened up by dropping all three doubles matches against a Bentley squad that has not lost a point in four matches, defeating each of its last three opponents by a 9-0 final.
Junior Kenny Vassallo (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) stood in the fifth singles slot and was edged 6-3, 6-2, while senior Sam Cieplicki (South Burlington, Vt./New Hampton School) slipped, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3. Sophomore Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) faced junior Lucas Wever (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Chapel School), who is the 16th-ranked player in the East region, and fell in straight sets.
The Purple Knights travel to Saint Anselm College on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. NE-10 match.
