SYRACUSE, N.Y. - In a match-up of teams vying for the sixth and final seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, the regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College men's tennis team lost to Le Moyne College, 8-1, on Saturday at Nottingham High School. With the setback, the Purple Knights' season comes to an end.
Saint Michael's, which is ranked ninth in the East region by the NCAA, finish its season at 6-6 overall and 5-6 in the conference, while Le Moyne improves to 7-8 and 6-5.
The Purple Knights opened by dropping all three doubles matches by 8-2 scores against a Le Moyne team that has won four out of its last five matches.
Sophomore Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) claimed the lone point for the visitors, fighting for a 6-7, 6-4, 10-3 triumph at No. 1. Three of the visitors' singles losses included at least one close set, including when junior Eric Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C./Pinecrest) suffered a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 defeat in the second slot. Senior Sam Cieplicki (South Burlington, Vt./New Hampton School) dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 3, and freshman Billy Wood (Wayne, Pa./Home Schooled) fell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6.
