SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost to the State University of New York at Potsdam, 2-0, in a non-conference contest on Friday afternoon at Cairns Arena. The Purple Knights fall to 0-8 while SUNY Potsdam improves to 5-4-2. The teams play again tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Purple Knight first-year Tina Frasca (Norwood, Mass./Massachusetts Spitfires) stopped 32 shots, coming within one of her career high. SUNY Potsdam senior Jessica Silveira (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) had a goal and an assist while classmate Amanda Lucky (Kanata, Ontario/Clarkson) also scored. Sophomore Abby Tardelli (Potsdam, N.Y./North Country Ice Storm) had 19 saves.
During the first period, the Purple and Gold had three shots on Tardelli prior to the visitors scoring first, with senior Macey Thomas (Amherst, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) firing two and first-year Sarah Bagley (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) taking another. The Bears took a lead 7:55 into the period on a power-play goal by Silveira. The Purple Knights had three power-play opportunities in the second period, including one that spilling into the final stanza, but all five shots during those woman advantages were saved by Tardelli. Lucky added to her team's lead at 3:58 of the third period, roofing a backhander. The Purple Knights had five shots following Lucky's goal during the remainder of the period but were unable to convert them into goals.
