HAINES CITY, Fla. - For the second straight day on its Spring Break trip to Florida, the Saint Michael's College women's tennis team faced a regionally-ranked foe, this time falling to Saint Cloud (Minn.) State University, 6-3, at Lake Eva Park on Tuesday after downing regional counterpart Adelphi University on Monday.

The Purple Knights slipped to 4-1, while the Huskies are 9-4. They sit ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region poll. Saint Michael's utilized a lineup that did not field three of its regular singles players and a normal doubles tandem, while also sporting a new lineup of doubles duos.

After a seven-hour rain delay pushed the match back to roughly 4:30 p.m., the squads dove into singles play first, with each capturing three matches. Senior Emily Magee (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1, first-year Alexandra Sulkin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) notched a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the fourth position, and sophomore Caroline Martin (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) ground out a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 triumph at No. 5.

First-year Erica Bundrick (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) nearly earned a fourth point but fell by a 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 decision in the second spot.

During doubles play, Saint Cloud State won each point to take the match. Sulkin and sophomore Caroline Toutoungi (Weston, Conn./Weston) came closest to earning a victory for the Purple Knights, falling 8-5 at No. 2 in their first career match together. The Purple Knights' regular No. 2 duo appeared in the top spot, while the players who sided at No. 3 were playing just their second match ever together.

Saint Michael's takes on Franklin & Marshall (Pa.) College tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
