MANCHESTER, N.H. - Eight different players had a role in at least one victory on Wednesday, helping the regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College women's tennis team knock off Saint Anselm College, 8-1, at the Carr Center Tennis Courts during Northeast-10 Conference play.

The Purple Knights, who stand eighth in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll, improved to 7-3 overall and 6-1 in the league. The Hawks are 1-6 and 1-5.

Saint Michael's nabbed wins in two of three doubles matches, with sophomore Caroline Toutoungi (Weston, Conn./Weston) and first-year Erica Bundrick (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) combining for an 8-0 victory at No. 2, and junior Samantha Purnell (Stowe, Vt./Stowe) and sophomore Kayla Dowd (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) earning an 8-3 triumph in the third slot. Senior Alex Dalton (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) and sophomore Caroline Martin (Scituate, Mass./Scituate), the squad's normal No. 2 duo, took an 8-5 setback during their second match at No. 1 this year.

The visitors swept through singles play. Bundrick yielded only one game at No. 2, sophomore Hannah Benoit (Mystic, Conn./Saint Bernard School) allowed two in the third spot, and Martin won by a 6-3, 6-1 count at No. 5. Dalton, normally the Purple Knights' No. 3, earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory while making only her second career appearance in the top position. Toutoungi corralled a 6-3, 6-3 win in the fourth spot, and first-year Alexandra Sulkin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) held on for a 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 triumph at No. 6.

The Purple Knights play twice at home this weekend, beginning with Le Moyne College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
