Box Score SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team fell to Franklin Pierce University, 3-0, during Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Cairns Arena. The Purple Knights are 3-17 while the Ravens improved to 12-7-2.
Junior Nicole Talcott (Colchester, Vt./Rice Memorial Prep) served 59:47 in net with 39 saves with senior Kaitlyn Wurzer (Lee, N.H./Berwick Academy) and sophomore Alissa Sullivan (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) blocking three shots. The Purple Knights held Franklin Pierce under its goals-per-game average of 3.29.
First-year Nicole Amato tallied two goals for Franklin Pierce as senior Alex Brolsma pitched in the other goal and went 20-for-26 in faceoffs. Senior Madison Murray denied 18 attempts in 59:57.
During a power play in the first period, Amato struck a shot from the left circle at 5:33 that snuck by Talcott's blocker side. The Purple Knights had a try at 11:29 as senior Ashley Dineen (Somers, N.Y./Canterbury School) took a slap shot from the right circle that was stopped by Murray before Talcott made a glove save later on at 16:29. The Ravens' second goal came at 17:19 during another power-play opportunity, this time a 5-on-3 advantage, when Brolsma capitalized on first-year Carolyn Drowne's rebound right out front after Talcott had registered a glove save on the initial shot.
In the second stanza, sophomore Bridgette Prentiss drove a power-play shot at 7:32 as Talcott made a pad save and later on went to make consecutive saves right on her doorstep less than a minute later. At 11:50, Talcott had a nice blocker save by the left-hand corner of the net.
Murray denied sophomore Arianna Boscia's (Cranston, R.I./La Salle Academy) right-circle bid at 8:14 of the third period by making a blocker save. Later on at 17:26, Boscia had back-to-back shots that were denied before Talcott made a mask save at 18:17. Amato tallied the final goal on an empty net, shooting from above the left circle and ringing a shot off of the right post and in at 19:10.
Dineen, Wurzer, Amanda Donahoe (Wakefield, Mass./Saint Mary's), Katherine O'Brien (East Sandwich, Mass./Tilton School) and Jillian Witwicki (Danvers, Mass./Pingree School) were all honored prior to the game during a Senior Day ceremony, with two home games remaining in their careers.
The Purple Knights host Saint Anselm College next weekend for a two-game series, starting on Friday at 7:05 p.m. on rink two of Cairns Arena.
