Purple Knights Drop Opening Game of Weekend Series with Saint Anselm

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt.  – The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to Saint Anselm College during Friday's New England Women's Hockey Alliance contest at Cairns Arena. The Hawks are the only undefeated team remaining across Division I/II women's ice hockey.

GAME FACTS

  • The Hawks are the only undefeated team left in Division I/II and have gone eight straight games without a loss, the second-longest active streak behind Division I Northeastern University, which has won 10 in a row. They also lead both divisions in scoring offense, coming into the game with a 5.86 goals-per-game average, which the Purple Knights were able to hold them under.
  • Coming into the game, Saint Anselm sophomore Katy Meehan led Division I/II in points per game (2.50) and goals per game (1.67) but was held without a point in the showing.
  • The Hawks held a slight 30-28 lead in faceoffs.

THE ACTION

  • The Hawks opened the scoring only 1:12 into the first as Golini scooped up a shuffle pass from Nylander along the right end boards, skated it into the slot and flicked it under the armpit of Simons.
  • The Hawks made it 2-0 at 6:41 when senior Caley Mueller shuffled a puck out from the right side boards to junior Amanda Conger, who touch passed the puck to Kaasa. She then skated to the top of the right circle and threw a shot past a screened Simons.
  • The Purple Knights' best scoring opportunity came on back-to-back shots from senior Brenna Galvin (Dorchester, Mass./Boston Latin School) with the second shot ringing the crossbar.
  • With five seconds left in the first, the Hawks converted on a power-play opportunity when Klaus received a puck in the high slot from sophomore Gabby Monaco and wristed a low shot into the bottom right corner.
  • 10:38 into the third period, first-year Kendra Currier threw a shot into traffic that found the stick of Ham, who then squeezed the puck under Simons to make it 4-0.
  • With 18:14 elapsed in the third period, LeFebre netted a rebound goal off of Nylander's initial shot for the final goal of the game.
