Box Score

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse senior Kealy Moyna (Yonkers, N.Y./The Ursuline School) registered six points to pass the 100-point plateau on Tuesday, but the Purple Knights yielded the game-winning goal with 14 seconds left in a 14-13 loss against Southern Connecticut State University at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs' Mountain Lion Stadium. The Purple Knights are 0-3 after opening their Northeast-10 Conference slate, having lost each of their contests by three goals or fewer, while the Owls improved to 1-2 during their first league game.

Moyna turned in a hat trick and three assists, matching a career high for points while becoming the 16th player in program history with 100 points (101) for a career. She also moved into a tie with Brynne Curran '08 for ninth at Saint Michael's in career assists (39), and junior Kate Martin (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) turned in her first collegiate hat trick while adding three draw controls. Classmate Alex Vincent (Rush, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women) totaled two goals, an assist and two draw controls, while first-years Ashley Turner (Monkton, Vt./Mount Abraham Union) and Kaitlyn Waystack (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) both scored twice, with Turner potting the first of her career.

Sophomore Kaelyn Oliver (Canton, Conn./Canton) scored and scooped two ground balls, first-year Olivia Krause (Bow, N.H./Bow) notched two assists and four ground balls, while senior Ashley Dineen (Somers, N.Y./Canterbury School) also dished off a pair of helpers. Junior Annie Martin (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) totaled five draw controls, two ground balls and her 49th career caused turnover, matching Noel Smith '06 for fifth in school annals. First-year Emma Coleman (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) caused three turnovers, sophomore Lilly Hardy (Greenland, N.H./Portsmouth) picked up two ground balls, and first-year Alexis Bower (Elmira, N.Y./Horseheads) stopped 13 shots in her first collegiate start.

Junior Samantha Cozzolino scored four times for Southern Connecticut State, as the teams played out of region for the second time in three years, having squared off in Florida in 2016. Senior Nicole Healey added two goals and three assists, as she and Cozzolino both had six draw controls, while seniors Carolynn Keal and Taylor Portelinha both scored three times during four-point days. First-year Lauren Morton made nine saves.

After Portelinha scored 1:16 into the game, the Purple Knights rattled off four straight goals, with Kate Martin scoring twice, and still led 5-2 on Turner's first college score with 15:30 to go in the opening half. Her second goal had Saint Michael's ahead 6-4 at 10:14, but Cozzolino netted three goals during a half-ending 4-0 run that took 2:20 to elapse. Moyna and Vincent both had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 stretch that began the second period, putting the Purple and Gold up 9-8, but Healey and Portelinha split scoring duties in a 4-0 response.

Moyna tallied on a free-position try with 14:21 to go for her 100th point before Oliver followed suit at 12:46, and Moyna fed Waystack for the equalizer with 10:30 left. First-year Hailey Gordon put the Owls ahead at 5:02, but Kate Martin converted Krause's dish 25 seconds later, and Bower made a big save at the end of the shot clock with 3:02 left to keep it tied. However, the Purple Knights committed a turnover with 90 seconds remaining and the Owls held for the final possession, with Cozzolino scoring at 14 seconds. Healey won the ensuing draw.

The Purple Knights, who finished a run of three games in four days in two time zones, finish up Spring Break by hosting Assumption College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
