SHELTON, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team completed its season-opening two-game series with Post University by losing a 3-2 decision on Saturday during New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) play at the Sports Center of Connecticut.

THE ACTION

• Nichols put the Purple Knights on the board just 21 seconds into the game, as junior Lizzie Blanchard (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) whipped a pass off the boards into the slot for Nichols, who deked Baumgartner and went to her backhand for her second goal in as many days.
• Storm found the equalizer at 14:22 of the opening period.
• Saint Michael's went back in front at 5:45 of the second period, as junior Maddie Gervais (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) had a shot stopped from the left circle during a power play, but Monbouquette nabbed the rebound at the right side of the crease and backhanded home a go-ahead marker.
• Proulx tied the contest once more at 18:13 after stripping a Purple Knight defender at the Post blue line, skating through neutral ice and making a move on another defender in the left circle, ultimately going to her backhand to beat Simons.
• Abeyta struck for the winner at 12:21 of the third period, carrying most of the ice up the left boards and finishing after streaking through the left circle.
• Saint Michael's put only two pucks on net during the remainder of the game.
